Free online Guide & File tool expands small claims support for businesses

Designed to help small businesses without legal representation to navigate the legal process and file specific claims, iCourt Guide & File launched in early 2018 via the Court Assistance Office. This free, online tool is available to anyone seeking to file claims or other documents electronically with an Idaho court.

Guide & File takes participants through a self-guided interview process that asks specific questions about a potential filing, then generates the appropriate documents to submit to the relevant Idaho court.

The tool was recently updated to include additional court actions/filings, specifically:

  • Filing a claim
  • Responding to a claim
  • Filing a motion while a case is pending
  • Enforcing a court judgment
  • Filing an appeal

Now that all courts in Idaho are on the same court case management system, individuals, businesses and nonprofits are now able to file any of these options directly with any Idaho county court via the Guide & File website.

Guide and File is another free resource provided by the Court Assistance Office, which also offers Idaho citizens and businesses a variety of resources at no cost, including free legal clinics. You can find your local office and other details at courtselfhelp.idaho.gov. Additionally, your local court assistance has received training on Guide & File and can answer any questions about the tool.

Please note that the information provided on the Guide & File website is legal information only and is not legal advice. Even if you follow all instructions you are not guaranteed a favorable result. Please consult with a lawyer for legal advice. Visit the Idaho State Bar Lawyer Referral Service to find a lawyer.

For technical errors or issues, please contact Imelda Ramirez, Statewide Court Assistance Officer. Calls for support for filing process on this tool cannot be supported by the Idaho Supreme Court Service Desk, as we’re unable to answer forms, process, and filing questions.
